Since Raf Simmons had accepted the tough job of being CK’s new creative chief officer, many became excited as to where direction he will lead the company to. Calvin Klein has surpassed decades of tough competition and proved their longevity that is why Simmons’ arrival caused some anxiety, especially amongst fashion experts and avid followers of the brand. But thankfully, all of that has been lifted because just last Friday he finally presented his debut collection during New York Fashion Week. And it certainly got everyone talking.
According to the show notes that Simmons wrote himself; the collection was inspired by the gathering of different characters, individuals and traits then forming them all together to make a harmonious and great environment, just like the United States of America.
With David Bowie’s song “This is NOT America” playing in the background, Calvin Klein models walked out and strutted their stuff, leaving the audience in awe of Simmons’s work. Some of the major components of his masterpieces are blue jeans, patterned sheets; western inspired shirts and colorful quills. These pieces were able to help him translate a very important and revealing message that he thought that country needed to remember.
Nods were given to US’s western culture. That became obvious with denim on denim combos and fashion forward colorful cowboy jackets. He also gave the country’s suit people a place in his collection by displaying excellent suits of black and white color. Raf also produced coats and jackets with colorful and interesting patterns, reflecting the influence of other cultures in America’s landscape and fashion.
Calvin Klein’s sudden trip to the meaningful yet high fashion route received many praises from show goers and fashion experts. The successful outcome of this show reinvigorated many people’s excitement as to what Raf Simmons will cook up next.
